Sustainability-related disclosures: summary

Swedbank Pension Fund Index (the Fund) promotes among other factors environmental and social characteristics, such as gradual reduction of CO2 emissions by following indices that apply ESG factors and compliance with international standards and conventions and decreasing exposure to controversial weapons.

The overall investment strategy of the Fund is described in the prospectus and the fund applies three main methods for promoting environmental and social characteristics: inclusion, exclusion, engagement (see descriptions in the below document). The Fund aims to promote environmental and social characteristics throughout the Funds’ portfolio, without having as its objective sustainable investment. The environmental and social characteristics promoted by the Fund are monitored and measured using different methods, e.g. due diligence of outsourcing partners, monitoring indicators obtained from third-party data providers and applying internal control mechanisms. The services from third-party data providers are the most important method and data source applied by Swedbank Investeerimisfondid AS as the Management Company of the Fund for measuring how the environmental and social characteristics promoted by the Fund are met.

Please note that data retrieval and sustainability-related data generally have important limitations (see below document for more info). Sustainability-related due diligence carried out on the underlying assets of the Fund, including internal and external controls on that due diligence vary depending on the asset class and specific instrument. The investment process adopted by the Management Company thus has different due diligence standards. The Management Company applies the principles for shareholder engagement published on its website, especially when investing to Baltic companies (listed or non-listed). However, the Fund mainly invests into underlying funds or instruments that track global equity indices and therefore the possibility to engage with investee companies is limited.
