Secure internet shopping

Secure shopping ensures peace of mind!

We wish for purchasing from e-stores to be convenient and secure for you. If you wish to pay by bankcard in an e-store, the MasterCard or Visa card used for it must be enrolled in the ‘Secure Internet Shopping’ programme.

The secure Internet shopping solutions MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa ensure, that you are identified twice when buying online.

How does the programme work?

  • The online stores that have joined the MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa will display the logos of the specified solutions and additional identification is asked when performing the transaction.
  • After entering the card data the summary of the purchase and a personal welcome message are displayed. Always check that the welcome message is correct. If the welcome message is wrong or missing, do not confirm the purchase transaction.
  • Next, you must enter your Swedbank Internet Bank user ID and password. For this choose the suitable means of authentication (ID card, mobile ID, PIN calculator, password card). If the authentication succeeded, you will be directed back to the merchant and the purchase transaction continues as normal.
  • If the online store hasn’t signed up to the ‘Secure Internet Shopping’ programme, you won’t need to enter your Internet Bank user ID and password when making a purchase, but your bankcard will still need to be enrolled in the programme.

How to open your card for Internet purchases?

  • To activate Internet purchases by bankcard, press the “Enable Internet shopping” button and follow the instructions. If you order a new bankcard, the Internet purchases option must be activated separately in case of each new card.
  • If necessary, you can stop the opportunity to buy online by pressing the button “Cancel”.
  • If you do not activate the Internet purchases option for a new card, it cannot be paid with in online stores.
  • If your bankcard that has been enrolled in the ‘Secure Internet Shopping’ programme expires, the renewed card sent by post will be enrolled in the programme automatically upon activating the card.
  • A replacement card sent by post will also be enrolled in the programme automatically upon activating the card.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What cards can I use to make purchases online?

All of the Visa and MasterCard cards you can use to make purchases online are displayed on the page where you sign up to the ‘Secure Internet Shopping’ programme. If you want to use a bankcard to pay online, the card must be enrolled in the ‘Secure Internet Shopping’ programme. If the card is not enrolled in the programme, it is not possible to pay with it in online stores (regardless of whether the merchant has signed up to the programme).
  • When can’t the Internet shopping option be activated for the card?

    • If your card is issued as a supplementary card to another person’s or company’s account, to enable Internet shopping, you need to turn to the account holder/company representative. Internet shopping can be activated only by the account holder or the person who has the right to use the account in the Internet Bank.
    • In the case of supplementary cards, the cardholder must have an active Swedbank Internet Bank user ID and security elements. If they don’t have them, the cardholder must go to the nearest branch of Swedbank to apply, bringing their identity document with them.
  • What should users of supplementary cards or cards issued on company accounts bear in mind?

Users of supplementary cards or cards issued on company accounts must have an active Swedbank Internet Bank user ID and security elements. If they don’t have them, they must go to their nearest branch of Swedbank to apply, bringing their identity document with them.
  • What should I do if I enter my username or codes incorrectly?

To confirm a transaction, a cardholder must enter their own Swedbank Internet Bank user ID and passwords. If a user ID or code is entered incorrectly over maximum allowed number of tries, Swedbank blocks the user’s access to the Internet Bank. For further instructions call our Client Support Centre on 6 310 310 or send an e-mail to info@swedbank.ee.
  • How do I know whether an online store has signed up to the "Secure Internet Shopping" programme?

You’ll find the logos of the MasterCard SecureCode or Verified by Visa programmes on the websites of merchants who have signed up to the programmes. You’re also asked to provide further verification of your identity when you make purchases in these online stores. If the online store hasn’t signed up to the ‘Secure Internet Shopping’ programme, you won’t need to enter your Internet Bank user ID and password when making a purchase, but your bankcard will still need to be enrolled in the programme.
  • What to note when shopping online?

    • Before you make a purchase online, make sure the store is safe. Every website should have information about the name and location of the company and the e-mail address and telephone number to use should you have any problems. There should also be information about deliveries and returns, submitting complaints and warranty terms and conditions.
    • Use a welcome text in the ‘Secure Internet Shopping’ programme that is as personalised as possible. Every time you make a purchase online, ensure that the greeting is the same as the one you set when you signed up to the programme.
    • If you don’t want to make any online purchases using your bankcard, we recommend that you remove it from the ‘Secure Internet Shopping’ programme or not sign up to the programme. That way no transactions will be able to be made with your card online. If you only rarely make purchases online using your bankcard, we recommend enrolling it in the ‘Secure Internet Shopping’ programme for the moment of making the purchase and then removing it again.
